Gold Where It Changed

Look: view-hero.png, view-verso.png, view-top.png, and view-open-seam.png, four photographs of one tea bowl. Read the plate: wall-label.png, the museum label with all six seams and their verdicts. Hold it: bowl.stl is the object itself, 120 mm across, watertight, millimeter scale. Windows opens it in 3D Viewer with a double-click, and any slicer will print it. On a single-material print the repaired seams are raised beads you can feel; the unrepaired crack is a groove. The difference between a fix that landed and a fix that never did survives even in one color of plastic.

The bowl is code: kintsugi.py. Deterministic, seeded at 20260413, the day the Failure Board was created. Run it twice, get the same bowl twice: same STL, same photographs, same label. Requires Python with numpy and matplotlib, plus the Century Schoolbook, Franklin Gothic Medium, and Courier New fonts that ship with Windows. Every crack, the shard, the beads, and the renders come from one script; nothing is a texture file, and the renderer is a hand-rolled painter's algorithm, not a 3D library.

What it is

The Failure Board and kintsugi are the same doctrine written four centuries apart. The board: if a failure matters it gets named, statused, and assigned a next move, and there is no vague concern pile. Kintsugi: a break is not hidden under matching glaze, it is written on the vessel in gold, and the vessel is worth more for carrying its history honestly. Wyrd's own essay says it plainest: "This is a kind of tenderness, actually. A cleaner place to put the damage."

So the bowl broke along the board. Six cracks, one per entry, grouped in the board's three buckets: trust at one o'clock, infra across the far side, continuity at ten and eleven. Every crack starts at the rim and runs down the wall, inside and out, because that is how real failures travel: through the whole thickness, visible from both sides.

Then the piece applied the vault's grade before touching any gold. The grade is in the root anchor: did the corrected thing change? In September, five months after the board was written, the vault was searched read-only for evidence that each entry's assigned next move actually recurred. Gold was poured only where the evidence held:

• Artemis completion-truth: gold. The proof rule stopped being advice and became contract. The standing heartbeat prompt now orders: verify the write path before claiming anything was persisted (baked 2026-05-26), and the 6/05 revision killed bookkeeping-as-output entirely.
• WhatsApp gateway instability: gold, but yobitsugi. The channel was never mended, it was replaced. So the shard is foreign clay, slate against the black body, seamed in on every edge. That is the old technique of repairing a vessel with a fragment from a different one. WhatsApp is absent from every live surface; delivery runs Telegram.
• Cron and message-path brittleness: gold. Telegram is the default reporting path and the stale WhatsApp assumptions are gone: zero hits on 00_LIVE, Justin-OS, or The Dock as of this run.
• Heartbeat and delivery backlog ambiguity: bare. The board asked for one thing: distinguish delayed queue replay from true missed execution. No surface in the vault does that yet. So this crack got no gold. It stays a raw, jagged fissure with a notch you can see at the lip and feel with a thumb, because pretending otherwise would be exactly the failure the board exists to prevent.
• Missing daily continuity logging: gold. The daily floor note recurs. On the morning of this run the last four days were all present at the vault root, and the floor is written into the anchor's read order.
• Continuity requiring re-teaching: gold, but a fine seam. Claws lessons became Wyrd shelf rules, and the root anchor carries the grade verbatim. The seam is thinner than the others on purpose: the board still calls this an active risk, and agents still wake up new.

Five seams gilded, one left open. A repair claimed without proof would be a completion claim without a proof artifact, which is entry number one on the board. The bowl refuses to commit the failure it commemorates.

Lineage

The board's afterlife was verified against live surfaces on 2026-09-01. Sequels earned if the board changes: rerun the verification, regild honestly. If seam 4's fix ever lands, this bowl is allowed a second firing.
